Roman joined Verno Capital in October 2013 as Head of Private Equity to exclusively advise our strategic partner on their investment partnership with the Russian Direct Investment Fund. Prior to joining Verno, he served as Deputy CEO and was a member of the Investment and Executive Management Committees at Sberbank Investments from 2011 – 2013. From 2008 to 2011, he was CFO and a member of the Investment and Executive Management Committees at Sberbank Capital, where he developed Sberbank’s $4 billion NPL restructuring business.
Prior to joining Sberbank, Roman was an MD and Investment Committee member at Martinico BV from 2004 to 2008 and the Head of the Merchant Banking Division at Petrocommerce Bank from 2000 to 2004. From 1995 to 1999, he was a Portfolio Manager at Horos Capital. In 1994, he held a corporate finance internship with JP Morgan in London and a consultancy position at Bain and Co in Moscow. Between 1991 and 1993, he served as a Translator for the United Nations in New York in Russian, English, Arabic, and French. Roman began his career as an Oil Analyst at NIPEK (Russia’s first public oil company) in 1990.
Roman holds a degree in International Economics and Arabic Studies from Moscow State University and an MBA from Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania. He is a Russian citizen and fluent in English, Arabic, and French.
